Dogs with Enthusiasm… and the Humans Trying to Keep Up

A reflective dog training podcast with Helen Taylor

Welcome to the Dogs with Enthusiasm… and the Humans Trying to Keep Up podcast — a supportive, real‑life dog training podcast for owners living with enthusiastic, curious, sometimes chaotic dogs.

Hosted by Helen Taylor, an experienced, force‑free gundog and pet‑dog trainer, this podcast is a place to slow down, reflect, and feel reassured that you’re not doing this wrong.

There’s no pressure to be perfect here. No judgement. Just honest conversations about what dog training really looks like — the wins, the wobbles, and everything in between.

What this podcast is about

Each episode explores observations from real training sessions, life in the field, and everyday moments with dogs who have a lot of enthusiasm for the world around them.

We talk about:

  • The difference between reacting and responding

  • Why observation and reflection change outcomes

  • How to support dogs with busy brains and fast bodies

  • What to do after things don’t go to plan

  • Why preparation matters more than perfection

This podcast is designed to help you think differently about training — not to overload you with instructions, but to give you clarity, confidence, and calm.

Who this podcast is for

This podcast is for you if:

  • You live with a dog who is enthusiastic, intense, or easily overstimulated

  • You want kind, evidence‑based dog training without force or shame

  • You’ve ever felt behind, embarrassed, or unsure you’re doing enough

  • You value understanding why behaviour happens, not just how to stop it

Your journey with your dog is individual. This podcast respects that.

A calmer approach to dog training

Modern life is fast — and that speed affects dogs just as much as it affects us. When we rush, dogs struggle. When we slow down, they can think, process, and succeed.

This podcast encourages you to:

  • Pause instead of panic

  • Observe instead of react

  • Reflect instead of blame

Because when we understand what our dogs need in the moment, we can prepare better next time — and those tricky moments start to happen less and less.
